US officials have spelled out plans to step up diplomatic engagement with the Pacific.
Speaking at the US-New Zealand business summit, the US's Indo-Pacific coordinator Kurt Campbell invited Pacific leaders to the White House, as part of its charm offensive.
It follows rising concerns over the security implications of China's expanding presence in the region, in particular its wooing of the Solomon Islands.
