Woman told mother has to move from resthome

From Morning Report, 8:43 am on 2 May 2022

A North Island resthome operator says the aged-care sector is starting to collapse.

Enliven is a not-for-profit service that runs fourteen resthomes as well as hospital and dementia care units, but says there are simply not enough nurses to provide care.

The shortage is so acute across Wellington and the Hutt Valley, there's barely a bed available and some who need acute care are being moved between rest homes or into public hospitals.

Stephanie Clare has been told her 72-year-old mother will have to be moved elsewhere, despite having lived at her resthome for ten years.

She spoke to Corin Dann.
