From Morning Report, 8:27 am on 22 April 2022

Russia has claimed victory in the battle for Mariupol, despite Ukrainian forces stubbornly holding on.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has told troops to ditch plans to storm a giant steel plant where the last Ukranian defenders are couped up and instead, to seal it up.

More than 100,000 people are still believed to be trapped in the besieged southern city.

The rare few who make it out usually end up in the south-eastern city of Zaporizhzhia.

Corin Dann spoke to staff correspondent with The Telegraph newspaper Campbell MacDiarmid, who had just arrived in the city.
