Survivors group questions inquiry extension timing

From Morning Report, 7:44 am on 12 April 2022

An abuse survivors group is questioning the timing and reason the inquiry into abuse in care has extendeded its investigation into wider faith-based abuse.

The Royal Commission has now added the Presbyterian and Methodist Churches, The Salvation Army and three closed community faiths, Gloriavale, Plymouth Brethren and Jehovah's Witness.

It's investigating the abuse of children, young people and vulnerable adults between 1950-1999 and is expected to deliver its final report in June next year.

The Network of Survivors of abuse in faith-based care has for some time been concerned about a lack of attention given to those abused in the care of church organisations.

Network spokesperson Liz Tonks spoke to Susie Ferguson.
