Police are promising a powerful presence in downtown Auckland as they move to crack down on what some say is runaway crime in the central city.
Business owners and residents say criminals have been runnning rampant and official figures show violence, thefts and robberies have surged high above pre-pandemic levels.
Police say their resources have been stretched by MIQ duties but now they are back on the streets.
