Air New Zealand wants to raise $2.2 billion dollars to help it recover from the effects of the pandemic.
The airline plans to make $1.2 billion by offering shareholders two shares for every one they own at a low 53 cent rate.
The last $1 billion will be made up of $600 million of shares issued to the government, and a new $400 million debt facility.
The government supports the proposal.
Air New Zealand chair Dame Therese Walsh spoke to Corin Dann.
