Campaigner wants tweaks to recycling overhaul plan

From Morning Report, 7:45 am on 14 March 2022

The Government is hoping an overhaul of the waste system will tackle the country's annual 13-million-tonne landfill problem.

Only 28 percent of New Zealand's rubbbish is recycled - the rest goes to landfill.

Environment minister David Parker is proposing a Transforming Recycling Plan to improve kerbside collection, encourage people to recycle bottles and introduce a national recycling system.

Waste policy campaigner Hannah Blumhardt says she welcomes the idea, but it might need a few tweaks.

She spoke to Corin Dann.
