Covid-19: Athlete who tested positive now testing negative

From Morning Report, 8:22 am on 3 February 2022

The NZOC is relieved a New Zealand athlete who tested positive for Covid-19 in Beijing has since tested negative.

In order to enter Beijing, team members must provide two negative Covid-19 tests predeparture, one within 96 hours of travel, and one within 72 hours.

New Zealand chef de Mission Marty Toomey says the athlete who produced a weak positive on arrival may well have been shedding viral load after having earlier recovered from having the virus.

New Zealand Olympic Committee's chief executive Kereyn Smith is monitoring the situation from here and spoke to Corin Dann.
