An announcement on when the country's borders will reopen is imminent, with Cabinet ministers expected to meet today to finalise the plan.
A staged timeline was outlined last year, which would've allowed vaccinated New Zealanders in Australia, and possibly elsewhere, to skip MIQ and isolate at home from the end of February.
That was pushed back due to the risk of Omicron.
The system has come under increasing criticism recently as people struggle to return to New Zealand through the MIQ lottery or on emergency grounds.
