It's 'game on' according to National's leader Chris Luxon, with the party gaining ground in the first political poll of the year.
The One News Kantar Poll has National back in the 30s at 32 percent - a four percentage point rise from November's poll.
Labour dropped one percentage point to 40 percent.
On these numbers, Labour would still comfortably be able to form a Government with help from the Greens who were unchanged at 9 percent.
Ardern took a four percentage point hit as preferred Prime Minister bringing her to 35 percent, meanwhile Luxon jumped up 13 percentage points to 17 percent.
Christopher Luxon says the poll is a good start. Nationals gain has been ACT's loss. The party lost three percentage points and is now on 11 percent.
ACT leader David Seymour says there is always a honeymoon period when a party gets a new leader.
Both leaders felt Omicron and inflation has taken the shine off the Government.
However, Jacinda Ardern said yesterday's poll was still a good result for Labour.
