Covid-19: National Party 'reluctantly' supporting red light move - Luxon

From Morning Report, 8:13 am on 24 January 2022

The National Party is supporting the Government's decision to shift to red light Covid-19 restrictions.

Party leader Christopher Luxon says the government should have been doing more to prepare before now though.

"We do reluctantly. I think it's a function of that we're buying time because we're unprepared."

He told Morning Report that more should have been done around rapid antigen testing and matters are getting urgent.

"We need them [rapid antigen tests] now, and we needed them months ago, to be honest with you. We can do PCR nasal testing and rapid antigen testing."

Luxon says New Zealand has the advantage of being able to see what happens overseas and adopting ideas fast.
