Tongans in New Zealand are anxiously waiting for news from the islands following Saturday's volcanic eruption and tsunami.

Communication links are still down and could remain that way for weeks.

Tonga's Speaker of Parliament Fatafehi Fakafanua has been among those waiting to hear from family and friends since Saturday's volcanic eruption and tsunami.

He speaks to Max Towle from Auckland.
