Covid-19: Israel considers fourth booster shot

From Morning Report, 7:42 am on 23 December 2021

Pandemic experts in Israel have recommended a fourth Covid-19 vaccination for health workers and those over the age of 60.

If the proposal goes ahead, Israel will become the world's first country to offer a fourth booster.

The decision is pending approval by senior health officials, but Prime Minister Naftali Bennett welcomed the suggestion and has told officials to start preparing.

There are more than 300 known cases of Omicron in the country.

It comes as the head of the World Health Organisation, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has given a warning within the last couple of hours that no country can boost its way out the pandemic.
