Kaimaumau fire: No damage to homes overnight - FENZ

From Morning Report, 7:17 am on 21 December 2021

Containment lines protecting houses from a large scrub fire in the Far North held overnight and no homes were damaged.

The 2000-hectare fire north of Kaitaia is threatening to reach the coastal village of Kaimaumau, where residents have been evacuated.

Fire controller Wipari Henwood told Morning Report the fire remains out of control, but they expect to have it encircled today.

He said the winds are still pushing the fire towards Kaimaumau.

Henwood said there is still a lot of vegetation within the perimeter of the blaze which the fire is likely to burn through over the next couple of days.
