The Medical Council says it's urgently working with the Ministry of Health and the police to investigate a Kaiapoi doctor who has been filmed issuing fraudulent vaccination exemption certificates.
Newshub footage shows Jonie Girouard coaching clients on how to get away with using the documents she gave them and declaring she's unvaccinated.
Council chair Curtis Walker said it's gathering information that needs to be put to Dr Girouard for a response, before any decision over further action is made.
He told Morning Report she will be given an opportunity to give her side of the story, but in general the council has no tolerance of individuals ignoring best practice.
"We're taking this matter very seriously, in that there is no place for anti-vaccination messaging, or Covid misinformation in medical practice."
Dr Walker said anyone with concerns about a doctor and vaccinations can contact the council.
"Wherever there are concerns about a doctor's practice, not just in this instance, but in any instance, give us call if there are concerns about a doctor's practice, we will look into them."
