Bella unseated as Wellington's top dog name

In these unprecedented times, there's been just another upset.

The name Charlie has guzumped Bella as the most popular dog names in Wellington this year.

There's no Stanley or Rainbow but there are some 'puntastic' entries in the top picks of the weird and wonderful.

The top ten names for Wellington dogs in 2021 were:

But it's not all about what's most popular, what about the most unique?

Wellington Council registered a Miss Dolly Pawton, Nuggie McSchnugglebutt, Joan of Bark and Gofetch Quantum Leap Frankie during the year too.

MacLean said there's a lot of creativity out there, but it's a good thing dogs don't respond to embarrassment the same way humans do.

"Imagine yelling those names out at the dog park. I mean, your dog would be red faced."
