Foreign Affairs Minister on sending Defence Force, police to Solomon Islands

From Morning Report, 7:36 am on 2 December 2021

New Zealand will deploy Defence Force and police personnel to the Solomon Islands to help in the regional effort to restore order in the capital Honiara.

The island nation has been roiled by civil violence in the past week, culminating in the deaths of three people and the torching of most businesses in the capital's Chinatown district.

Australia, Fiji and PNG have already contributed personnel in the effort to quell the unrest.

Foreign Affairs Minister Nanaia Mahuta spoke to Corin Dann.
