Analysis: Who can take over the National Party?

From Morning Report, 7:17 am on 26 November 2021

Judith Collins is out - but who is next in line?

The competition is on, and National MPs have given themselves a Tuesday deadline to consider their options before filling the top job.

The implosion comes after a late Wednesday night press release from Ms Collins, where she accused MP and former leader Simon Bridges of " serious misconduct" at a party event in Premier House five years ago.

Simon Bridges said this was "truly desperate stuff" from Collins who would go to any length to hold on to her leadership. On Thursday,

Collins was forced to step down after her caucus issued a motion of no confidence in her - and the kicker? Bridges could be in the running to replace her.

While the caucus figure out who they want at the helm, Shane Reti has taken over.
