Covid-19: Cases spreading down the North Island not unexpected - Prime Minister

From Morning Report, 7:23 am on 15 November 2021

The Prime Minister says it's not unexpected that cases of Covid-19 are surfacing in several new parts of the country.

The virus emerged in Rotorua, Taupō and the Tararua district over the weekend, and was confirmed in Taranaki late last week.

Jacinda Ardern told Morning Report for the most part, there is either a link back to Auckland or a strong theory about where the cases came from.

"It is not unexpected that we have over this period of time now begun to see cases seeded in other places, just worth noting though for the most part, there is either a link or a strong theory as to how it's come to be in those places, mostly linked back to Auckland."

She said it's not the case that things have been bubbling in a community for a long period of time.
