Scientists want intervention in marine reserves

Aotearoa's coastal waters are protected by more than 40 marine reserves, where it is illegal to fish, disturb or take any marine life.

Even after decades of protection, damage caused by overfishing and human activity is still visible in some reserves.

Marine scientists say stopping fishing isn't enough and its time to intervene.
