An expert on child health and immunisation says a Covid-19 vaccine for children is inevitable in this country and others.
The Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine is expected to be approved very soon by the United States Food and Drug Administration for children aged 5 to 11.
Otago University Professor Peter McIntyre says the main benefit of vaccinating children would be to get them back to school without the need for masks and extra ventilation.
He says high levels of adult vaccination would still be needed.
