Waikato win Farah Palmer Cup

It was a bumper weekend for provincial rugby, with Hawke's Bay locking away the Ranfurly Shield for the summer and All Blacks captain Sam Cane making a guest appearance for Heartland union King Country.

But the most compelling story unfolded in Christchurch, where Waikato stunned four-time defending champions Canterbury in the final of the women's Farah Palmer Cup.

The 22-20 result came despite the visitors having to twice hurriedly relocate from level 3 restrictions as alert levels tightened last week - firstly in Hamilton and then Cambridge.

The team's No.8 Victoria Edmonds scored a crucial try in the final.
