Festival organisers are backing the vaccine passport requirement for revellers but want to see water-tight rules to avoid forgeries.
The Government's announced vaccine certificates are likely to be rolled out in November and will be required at large-scale events.
Events consultant and Homegrown New Zealand music festival director Andrew Tuck said organisers would have to be one step ahead of rule-dodgers.
He says checking all attendees have a legitimate vaccine certificate will add another step to the ticketing process - and may lead to more delays for people getting in.
