D-Day for councils to respond to three waters plan

From Morning Report, 8:39 am on 1 October 2021

Friday is D-day for councils to consider the government's Three Waters proposal and to give their feedback.

There has been a lot of debate over what the reform will mean - with some especially opposed to the changes, which will see all 67 local and regional councils' drinking, waste and storm water assets absorbed by four large regional entities.

In return, the government would pay for billions of dollars' worth of much-needed infrastructure and repairs.

Water NZ is the industry body for the three waters sector.

Its chief executive Gillian Blythe spoke to Susie Ferguson.
