US troops had to accelerate their withdrawal after Kabul fell to the Taliban in August, which officials say was earlier than expected.
Meanwhile time is running out for the Democrats, who are trying to prevent a potentially catastrophic government shutdown this week.
This comes after Senate Republicans blocked an emergency spending bill to keep the government running beyond Thursday - when the current funding expires.
