Covid-19: Legal requirement for vaccine passport unlikely

From Morning Report, 7:14 am on 27 September 2021

It is unlikely that people will be legally required to show a vaccine passport to get into bars, restaurants and other venues.

Health, Customs and Transport officials have been working on a health pass app, called My Covid Record, which was originally designed for international travellers, but is likely to be rolled out domestically.

Legal advice suggests any enforced use could be open to challenge under human rights law.

Note:

In that story, we incorrectly reported there was no law making it compulsory to scan or sign in to businesses and public events and places.

A clause under the Covid-19 Public Health Response Order, states the person in control of the business or service must have systems and processes in place to ensure that each person aged 12 or older scans the QR code or makes a record of entering the workplace, or provides their contact information to the workplace.
