The government has announced a five-month delay to its plan to tackle the climate crisis.
Climate Change minister James Shaw announced on Wednesday that Cabinet agreed to the delay the Emissions Reduction Plan.
It comes as the Climate Action Tracker - an independent scientific analysis that measures government climate action - rated our response to the climate crisis as 'highy insufficient'.
Shaw told Morning Report he didn't want to delay the plan.
"Ultimately, we've got a third of the population under lockdown at the moment, and we've got a lot of the organisations, whether they're iwi organisations or businesses or community organisations that are just trying to keep the lights on," he said.
"Ultimately we thought if we try and conduct a consultation with the public, under those conditions then basically those people wouldn't be able to participate in the fullest."
