Covid-19: Resistance to proposed Tāmaki Makaurau school holiday change

The government will consider bringing school holidays forward in Auckland in response to the city's drawn-out lockdown - but can expect resistance from teachers and principals.

Education Minister Chris Hipkins is seeking advice from his ministry after concerns were raised by some parents.

There's a school of thought that students have missed too much class time because of level four restrictions.

Proponents want an early finish to term three, allowing a longer term four when Tāmaki Makaurau is potentially out of lockdown and classes are reopened.

Auckland Secondary Principals Association president Steve Hargreaves, and Auckland Primary Principals Association president Stephen Lethbridge, spoke to Susie Ferguson.
