Covid-19: Principals resistant to moving school holidays

From Morning Report, 6:45 am on 15 September 2021

The government will consider bringing school holidays forward in Auckland in response to the city's drawn-out lockdown - but can expect resistance from teachers and principals.

Education Minister Chris Hipkins is seeking advice from his ministry after concerns were raised by some parents that students are missing an inordinate amount of class time because of level four restrictions.

The holidays are due to start in three weeks - on 1 October - which could coincide with Tāmaki Makaurau coming out of lockdown and schools potentially re-opening.

Secondary Principals' Association of New Zealand president Vaughan Couillault spoke to Corin Dann.
