Covid-19: Prime Minister sticking to elimination

From Morning Report, 6:37 am on 14 September 2021

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern insists the elimination strategy is still the best option, but won't say how long the Government intends to keep using lockdowns as a way of containing any future outbreaks.

Ardern says vaccination rates will be crucial to New Zealand's future response, with her only stated target to get them as high as possible.

Auckland faces another seven days under alert level 4 as officials work to get the outbreak fully under control, also leaving the rest of the country in level 2.

ACT is calling for elimination to be abandoned if Auckland's lockdown fails to bear fruit within the week.
