Damp classrooms potential breeding ground for Covid-19

Urgent retrofitting of older building stock is needed to reduce the risk of Covid-19 in New Zealand's schools, according to several of the country's leading public health experts.

They say that New Zealand's "cold, damp indoor environments" were a major public health concern even before outbreaks of the highly transmissable airborne Delta strain.

A typical Wellington primary school classroom meets the building code ventilation standard 38% of the school day. A Developmental Paediatrician at Starship Children's hospital Dr Jin Russell spoke to Susie Ferguson.
