Covid-19: Health Minister on Middlemore exposure incident

From Morning Report, 7:10 am on 8 September 2021

The impact of a mishandled Covid-19 case at Middlemore Hospital is becoming clearer as staff are stood down and wards are closed to new admissions.

Health officials have admitted a Covid-positive patient should have been isolated as soon as they suspected he could have the virus.

Four wards are closed, patients are being isolated, and nearly 30 staff have been stood down after the Covid-19 case was unknowingly admitted on Saturday.

The man was confirmed to have the virus a day later.

The Counties Manukau DHB has refused to be interviewed.

Health Minister Andrew Little spoke to Corin Dann.
