Covid-19: Hospitalised patients causing disruption

From Morning Report, 7:13 am on 2 September 2021

The government is scrambling to find enough specialist care for Covid-19 patients in Auckland, and is transferring some non-Covid patients out of the city to reduce pressure.

Some spinal cord injury patients, for example, who would normally be sent to Counties Manukau for treatment, are being diverted to Christchurch.

There are 32 Covid-19 patients in hospital, eight of whom are in intensive care, and city health authorities are urgently seeking staff from other parts of the country.

Auckland District Health Board director of hospital services and northern region DHBs spokesperson Dr Michael Shepherd spoke to Susie Ferguson.
