BBC journalist banned from Russia

From Morning Report, 6:49 am on 2 September 2021

BBC journalist Sarah Rainsford has been told she's been banned for life from Russia, after more than 20 years reporting from Moscow.

She was stopped at the airport after returning from Belarus, where she had been reporting on the suppression of mass protests against Alexander Lukashenko, an ally of President Vladimir Putin.

In her final dispatch before her expulsion, she warned the country is going backwards on press freedom.

She spoke to Corin Dann.
