Businesses are hoping there won't be another "shambles" at Auckland's southern border when the rest of the country drops to alert level 3 on Wednesday.
Applications are open for businesses to apply for workers to travel across alert-level boundaries.
The Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment says 681 companies had travel documents issued on Sunday.
Alan McDonald from the Employers and Manufacturers Association says in previous lockdowns there were sometimes five-hour delays at checkpoints.
His association has been talking with officials to get things right this time.
