Covid-19: Yesterdays numbers bad enough for two week lockdown extension - Modeller

From Morning Report, 7:11 am on 24 August 2021

A government adviser and Covid-19 data modeller, Rodney Jones, says the next few days are pivotal in the country's fight against community spread of the delta variant.

Rodney Jones told Morning Report numbers need to stop dropping in the next few days to prove the lockdown is working.

He also said Monday's 35 new cases was bad news.

"Yesterday was enough justification to have locked down for two more weeks, at least not just one week. It was a bad day that set us back."

"So the best hope for Auckland is still in two weeks' time, but that could recede receive very quickly in the next day or so."
