Try doing anything at 3am or 4am and it'll be an effort - let alone playing chess against some of the best young talent in the world.
That was the task that confronted Nelson College student Alexandre de Maupeou d'Ableiges, who had to get his brain operating at full capacity in the wee small hours for five straight nights in an under-16 global World Cup tournament.
