Midwives hampered by delay in police clearances
Delays in getting police clearances are forcing independent midwives to work weeks on end without pay, or not work at all, until they're approved. The New Zealand College of Midwives is hearing numerous complaints every week, from midwives who feel they're having to abandon pregnant mothers in their time of need. Earlier, Alison Eddy, the Chief Executive of the College of Midwives, told me the delays were proving highly problematic.
