Birth certificate sex change bill closer to becoming law

From Morning Report, 8:50 am on 12 August 2021

A bill making it easier for people to change their sex on their birth certificate is one step closer to becoming law.

After a three year hiatus, the Births, Deaths, Marriages, and Relationships Registration Bill was back before the House last night for its second reading and passed with support from all political parties.

The changes mean people will no longer have to go through the Family Court or show evidence of medical treatment to change the gender on their birth certificate.
