Hate speech laws: Feedback for new legislation closing Friday

From Morning Report, 8:39 am on 6 August 2021

Public feedback closes on Friday for what the Government is describing as proposals to "strengthen protections against speech that incites hatred and discrimination".

Since announcing the plans for hate speech legislation there have been concerns Kiwis would no longer be able to ridicule Boomers, Karens or even politicians.

The government has been accused of failing to explain what they are trying to do, while opponents of the legislation have been accused of fearmongering.

Free Speech Union representative Jonathan Ayling and media barrister Steven Price spoke to Corin Dann.
