Covid-19: Chris Bishop on Wellington plan to be vaccinating in new year

From Morning Report, 6:43 am on 4 August 2021

The Wellington region won't be hitting the government's preferred vaccination deadline this year.

More than half of DHBs have provided written reports to the Ministry of Health and others have provided data setting out their timetables.

Capital Coast DHB and Hutt Valley DHB have been working together to deliver the vaccination programme and reported jointly, telling officials they would complete 'tier' three and roll out 'tier' four vaccinations between August and December.

However phase four from early December through to late February 2022 is designated 'Wash Up'.

But the Prime Minister and others in the government have repeatedly indicated that this year was the preferred deadline.

National Party spokesperson for Covid-19 response Chris Bishop spoke to Corin Dann.

The Capital and Coast DHB released a statement on the vaccination plan on Wednesday morning.

"Vaccination in the Wellington and Hutt Valley regions will be complete by December 2021, and possibly earlier."
