Tokyo Olympics: Dame Valerie Adams hopes medal will inspire kids

From Morning Report, 7:38 am on 2 August 2021

Dame Valerie Adams hopes her fourth Olympic medal will inspire her children, her sister and women around the world.

Already with two Olympic gold medals and a silver to her name, the 36-year-old New Zealand shot putter completed the set with bronze at her fifth Games in Tokyo yesterday.

It makes Dame Valerie just the third women in Olympic history to win four medals in one event.

The success comes after Dame Valerie took time away from athletics to have two children after the 2016 Games in Rio.

Clay Wilson reports from Tokyo on why soaking in the most meaningful moment of her career is taking priority over any decisions about what the future holds.
