Childrens Commissioner wants restraint chairs phased out

From Morning Report, 8:16 am on 26 July 2021

The Children's Commissioner wants the use of restraint chairs to be phased out as soon as possible.

Between 2015 and 2020 Police strapped 38 young people into the chairs - the youngest just 13 years old.

Restraint chairs use leg, waist, wrist and chest straps to immobilise a person deemed a serious risk to themselves or others.

Judge Andrew Becroft spoke to Susie Ferguson.
