A Westport man is hitting out at the local council for not doing enough to protect the town from flood.
Heavy rain over the weekend caused the Buller and Orowaiti Rivers to flood, resulting in widespread devastation.
Speaking at a public meeting with around 80 people last night, one local, Josh Walsh, criticised the Buller District Council for not protecting the town from floods.
He told reporter Samantha Gee that flood protection has been an ongoing issue for more than 20 years.
