Westport evacuee wants empty homes turned to accomodation

From Morning Report, 6:45 am on 21 July 2021

A Westport evacuee who's trying to find somewhere else to live wants empty houses up for sale in the town to be turned into emergency accommodation.

Karen Palermo's flat has had water and silt through it and she's now one of 95 people living at Westport South School which is being used as an evacuation centre.

The Associate Housing Minister Poto Williams will be in Westport today.

Karen Palermo hopes the Minister might consider her idea to use Westport's empty homes.

She spoke to reporter Samantha Gee.
