Stopbanks can't be relied upon as climate changes - expert

The country is being warned it can no longer rely on stopbanks to prevent flooding as climate change will make major weather events - like the one over the weekend - more severe.

Judy Lawrence from the Climate Change Research Institute says local and central government must stop allowing houses to be built in at risk areas and relying on ever bigger flood protection works.

This has created a false sense of security to communities.

She spoke to Kim Hill.
