NZ's trade reliance on China may be too strong to backtrack on

A foreign policy expert says New Zealand has sleep-walked into a position where our reliance on China for trade, could make it difficult for us to stand by our traditional international allies.

RNZ data analysis shows New Zealand is now making more than $11 billion a year from exporting food and beverages to China.

Dr Reuben Steff says that leaves the country in a difficult position - which may now be impossible to get out of.
