Black Caps win World Test Championship

From Morning Report, 6:07 am on 24 June 2021

The Black Caps have won a cricket World Cup, beating India by 8 wickets in the inaugural World Test Championship final in Southampton.

Veteran New Zealand basman Ross Taylor hit the winning runs, with a boundary to square leg, ending the innings on 47.

Captain Kane Williamson was with Ross Taylor at the crease, with a knock of 52.

The rain-affected match had been looking like it would head for a draw, but New Zealand bowled out India for just 170 runs in their second innings overnight, setting up the prospect of a result.

Sports reporter Joe Porter spoke to Corin Dann.
