In Jerusalem thousands of right-wing nationalists are taking part in a contentious march - despite warnings that allowing it could renew conflict.
The event risks reigniting tensions with Palestinians, and has created an early challenge for the new Israel Government formed on Sunday.
The contentious annual "Flag March", which celebrates the Israel's 1967 occupation of the city's eastern part, was delayed last month.
About 2000 extra police have been deployed in East Jerusalem ahead of the event.
