Climate Change Commission recommends iwi set emissions targets

From Morning Report, 6:26 am on 10 June 2021

The Climate Commission has recommended iwi, hapū and Māori determine their own contribution to reducing national emissions - and set their own targets - as part of the newly released report laying out how the country can become carbon neutral by 2050.

The Commission wants government to work with iwi and Māori representatives to create an emissions profile for each takiwā and how that contributes to national emissions.

But there is concern that the policy could lead to some emissions being identiified as "Māori created."
